There are lots of other ways to lower blood pressure besides that of just taking medication. When people find out they have high blood pressure often they sort of give up, and take the medication and do not consider any other alternative. Although taking medication may seem like the simplest solution, it isn't. Medication causes all kinds of side effects in the long run.

The following are some alternative ways you can lower your blood pressure, without damaging your body.

1. The Dash Diet

This is an excellent way of lowering your blood pressure and even recommended by the American Heart Association. The Dash diet is made up of grains, fruit, vegetables, and low fat dairy products. A typical daily intake will involve:

o2 to 3 servings of low fat dairy
o7 to 8 servings of grains
o4 to 5 servings of fruit
o4 to 5 servings of vegetables
oA serving of nuts, seeds or dry beans
oNo sweets, or less than 5 servings a week

2. Autogenic Procedures

This is a mind body technique that reduces stress and promotes relaxation. People who start the procedure learn to control their breathing, their heart rate, body temperature and their blood pressure.

3. Yoga

Studies have shown that the mind body principles taught in Yoga help reduce blood pressure.
