What Is Submission Wrestling And Grappling?
The popularity of Submission Wrestling and Grappling in the US has been on the rise since the early 1990s, following successes in the Ultimate Fighting Championships. This is true of the Virginia, Maryland and Washington areas, as it is nationwide. But what exactly is it? And what is all the fuss about?
Put simply, Submission Wrestling, or Grappling is the combination of various martial art styles and techniques. Drawing inspiration from disciplines including Jiu-Jitsu, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Olympic Wrestling and Judo, amongst others it is widely respected as being the ultimate in Mixed Martial Arts, or MMA to give it snappier moniker.
When starting to train it will soon become clear there is much more to take from this captivating sport than garnering the skills to fight successfully on a mat or in the ring. You will be taught how to focus, how to reign in your feelings and emotions and to develop mentally. Physical benefits are also of course very evident as a program runs its course. Indeed, recent studies have suggested it is one of the most effective forms to tone and hone the body. As with swimming, you will find it necessary to use all your muscle groups.
An accessible sport, Submission Wrestling can be entered into with a few simple accessories. A pair of shorts and a t-shirt is all that is really required. Though, we suggest and recommend fervently you invest in a decent gum shield, to protect those pearly whites, and a groin protector. I'll leave it to you to come to your own conclusions on what the consequences will be without this.
So accessible is Grappling, that it can be enjoyed by participants from all walks of life, adult or child, male or female, young or old. Why not bring the whole family along to class. Hell! Wouldn't it be great to see Grandma and Grandpa squaring each other up?
Another plus to the sport provides the opportunity to socialize. Groups will be split up into partners, and will rotate through the class. It is likely you will develop excellent relationships and friendships. Being an extreme contact sport, you will spend an awful lot of time rolling around on the floor grappling with opponents. We find this is an extremely effective way of getting to know one another.
Having this close contact in such a focused environment also promotes a great deal of respect. These skills pervade the whole class, from the teacher down. Such values as this are one of the leading attractions to parents when considering advising their children to join up. This respect of course does not stay in the classroom. Quite confidently we are proud to say the program of events at schools across the Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC areas help to develop kids into responsible, respectful, conscientious and caring young adults.
There are benefits to be had by all in Wrestling and Grappling. Be it to develop your body or focus the mind, whatever you require from it is achievable.
