Should I Wear Compression Socks?

Okay so you are probably wondering what are compression socks these particular socks are specialised therapeutic socks and they are made from woven spandex or nylon, this enables them to create pressure on the lower legs this pressure of the socks is slowly applied down the legs all the way down to the ankles with high pressure, but decreases in pressure up to the knee, this type of pressure helps to circulate the blood in the heart and prevent blood pooling in the vessels of the lower extremities, using compression socks gives better blood circulation and this helps to reduce the swelling and the risk of blood clots, these socks are used to treat many conditions with people including diabetes and other situations.

Most hospitals follow up protocol that anybody getting surgery and especially those who are non-ambulatory should be fitted with compression stockings/socks this will help reduce the risk of blood clots following a surgical procedure by clots in some patients is a major contributor to in patient hospital deaths.

Compression socks or stockings are pretty effective of treating certain type of disorders such as varicose veins, chronic circulatory diseases, diabetics, chronic venous insufficiency, lymphedema, thrombosis and many other types of conditions, the purpose of the compression sock is to help reduce the edema of the legs, to prevent blood pooling, to help improve circulation, and help reduce the risk of blood clot formation.

The socks should be removed at night time or when sleeping and that is recommended that socks should be put on before getting out of the bed in the morning and be worn throughout the day, one should also rest and elevate the foot and leg area to reduce pain and inflammation, to wear compression socks will depend on the patient's condition and also the risk of developing blood clots, some conditions require a long-term solution or even a lifelong use
